This Privacy Policy applies to the CollegeInsight website and mobile application and to information users provide through those services.
Consent
By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
Information we collect
The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
Email address is the only contact information required to create an email/password account. If you use Apple or Google sign-in, that provider may share your name and email address according to your provider settings. We do not require a street address or telephone number to create an account. We use your email address for account access, password resets, account updates, and other important service communications.
After registration, you may optionally provide profile data to personalize College Insight. This can include city, state, ZIP code, expected graduation year, family income, GPA, class rank, SAT, PSAT, ACT, AP exams, academic history, intended majors, and college preferences. We associate saved profile data with your account and use it for app functionality and personalized college, academic, and financial-fit insights. You can edit or clear this information through your profile.

Use of AI and Language Models
College Insight utilizes OpenAI’s language models (GPT-4o and GPT-4o Mini) to provide personalized educational insights, such as college comparisons, admission analysis, and application guidance.
What this means:
- When you interact with AI-driven features on our platform, your input (e.g., questions, selected colleges, preferences) may be sent to OpenAI’s servers for processing and generating a response.
- These inputs are not used by OpenAI to train or improve its models, in accordance with OpenAI's API usage policy.
- We do not transmit your personally identifiable information (PII), such as your email or account data, to the language model as part of any prompts.
- AI-generated content is meant to assist and guide your college planning decisions, but should not be considered definitive or official advice.
Your control:
- If you prefer not to use AI-enhanced features, you may choose to avoid specific tools or request alternatives where available.
- For transparency or data concerns related to AI usage, feel free to contact us directly.
Log Files
College Insight follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies and Web Beacons
Like any other website, College Insight uses "cookies". These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize the users' experience by customizing our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.
Payment Processing with Stripe
College Insight uses Stripe, a trusted third-party payment processor, to handle one-time point-pack purchases and related transactions. College Insight operates on a pay-as-you-go model: you purchase "points" in fixed-size packs and spend them on AI-powered features. There are no recurring subscriptions, and no auto-renew of any point pack.
When you choose to make a payment on our platform, the payment information you provide (such as your credit or debit card number, billing address, and email) is securely transmitted to Stripe. We do not store or have access to your full payment card details. Card-on-file storage for one-click repurchase is opt-in and held by Stripe as a tokenized PaymentMethod; you can remove a saved card at any time from Account → Billing.
Stripe processes your data in accordance with its own Privacy Policy and complies with applicable industry standards, including PCI-DSS Level 1. We share only the minimum personal information required to complete the transaction and deliver the service (typically email address for receipts, billing ZIP for sales-tax calculation, and the point pack identifier).
We retain a non-PII payment ledger (transaction id, amount, point quantity, timestamp, last-4 of card, and outcome) for as long as required by US tax, accounting, and chargeback-response rules (currently 7 years). This ledger survives account hard-delete with all personally identifying fields anonymized. See our How Payments Work page for a plain-English walkthrough of the point lifecycle, and our Refund Policy for refund and chargeback handling.
By purchasing a point pack you consent to Stripe handling your payment information as described above.

CCPA Privacy Rights (Do Not Sell My Personal Information)
Under the CCPA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:
Request that a business that collects a consumer's personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.
Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.
Request that a business that sells a consumer's personal data, not sell the consumer's personal data.
If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us.
GDPR Data Protection Rights
We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:
The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.
The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
The right to data portability – You have the right to request that we transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

Children's Information (COPPA)
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity.
College Insight is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect Personal Identifiable Information from children under 13. We do not allow users under 13 to purchase points or otherwise transact on the platform.
For users aged 13 through 17 ("minors"), we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable state minor-consent laws. Before a minor may complete a point purchase, our age-gate flow collects a parent or guardian email address and requires verifiable consent. The guardian receives two emails: (1) a one-time consent attestation prior to the first purchase, and (2) a transaction-time second-consent email for each purchase. Either link grants the guardian a 24-hour, CSRF-protected checkout session and an audit log entry tied to the minor's account. Minors cannot bypass the age-gate or complete payment without an active guardian session.
Guardians may revoke consent at any time by contacting support@collegeinsight.ai or by replying "REVOKE" to either consent email. Revocation freezes the minor's outgoing payments immediately; existing point balances remain spendable but no new purchases can be made until consent is re-issued.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information on our website, contact us at the address above and we will promptly remove the information from our records.
Account and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data from the CollegeInsight mobile app, from Account Settings on the website, or through our public account deletion page. Account deletion requests enter a 30-day recovery period before permanent deletion. The deletion page explains the process and any limited records we may retain for legal or security obligations.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, we advise you to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately, after they are posted on this page.
